Specialized Testing

Below are brief descriptions of the various specialized eye tests we are able to complete at Mountain Eye Care in Pagosa Springs.

We are able to provide a wide range of specialized testing here in our facility. We have two incredible, specialized pieces of equipment that allow the doctors to examine your eyes in far more detail than ever before; even the inside of your eyes, all without an intrusive procedure and sometimes even without dilation. This page will go into some detail about the technologies we offer, why they are important, and how they could help your health.

OptoMap Imaging by Optos ©

OptoMap is the name of the retinal images our camera captures. The camera is developed by a company named Optos who have been developing diagnostic technologies for a few decades now.

The retina is the inside, backwall, of your eye where a doctor will have the ability to exam your blood vessels as well as other integral pieces of your eyes such as the optic nerve head and the macula. We have found these images so helpful and informative that we have began to include this screening in all our routine exams.

These preventative screenings allow us to assess the current condition of your eyes. The images serve as a baseline that we can use to compare any changes on follow up visits.

OCT by TopCon ©

OCT is the abbreviation of Optical Coherence Tomography. This technology uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina. We will be able to review the distinctive layers of the retina. These results can help us detect and monitor eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
